Nassau County One Book/One Community
A community-wide book discussion. Join us for events throughout the year.
One Book / One Community events are in partnership with the Nassau County Public Library System and the Amelia Island Book Festival. Events encompassing the theme of the 2019 author’s books will be held at library branches throughout Nassau County.
Continuing an idea that began in Seattle in 1998, the Nassau County Library System and Amelia Island Book Festival have partnered to encourage everyone in the community to read and discuss the same book with friends, family, neighbors and book clubs. The selection for 2019 is New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander, the first book in what is expected to be a 10-book series.
Ebooks are available to download free or you can reserve a printed copy at www.nassaureads.com. Call the library at 904.530.6500 for more information.
Published in 1991, Outlander combines historical fiction with romance and time travel, set primarily in Scotland. A partial summary from Goodreads:
"The year is 1945. Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of Our Lord...1743.
Gabaldon was a featured author in the 2019 Amelia Island Book Festival.
