Eileen Hobbs

Book Title:

Under the Golden Rain Tree

Author Bio:

Eileen Hobbs is an award winning author of The Heath Cousins series and Under the Golden Rain Tree. She grew up in Thailand and has been writing stories since she was very young. Her first published book was The Heath cousins and the Moonstone Cave. While not writing, she enjoys travel, gardening, the beach, and hanging with her dogs Charlie and Sibby. She also has two adopted grown sons who were part of her inspiration for writing. She loves writing for middle grade because they still believe in magic (and she does too!) One of her favorite quotes is by C.S. Lewis: “One day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again” - C.S. Lewis.

Eileen also believes strongly in reflecting diversity in books because her family is made up of different ethnicities. This diversity is reflected in Under the Golden Rain Tree about a ten year old girl from Thailand who is often bullied due to a disabled hand. Her life changes when she meets and forms a special bond with Rambu, a magical white elephant.
Eileen’s books all have a mix of fantasy but also tackle themes that middle graders are dealing with now such as losing a grandparent, getting along with family, forgiveness and, in her upcoming book, divorce. Watch for Stella and the Sea Stars coming soon.

Eileen loves visiting schools and talking to kids about her books. “Kids inspire me and give me the best ideas for future books. And let’s face it. They are simply fun!”
