Born in Miami Florida. Raised in Atlanta Georgia & Coral Gables, Florida. Coral Gables High School graduate. Two older siblings: Gerard, US Army Special Forces (retired) and Diane, a retired banking executive.
After high school, enlisted in the US Air Force, serving four years as a Security Policeman with tours in Turkey and Greece. After honorable discharge from the Air Force, joined the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) beginning a 26-year career. Served 18 years as a Detective, with significant experience in violent crime, domestic violence, and fraud investigations. After Hurricane Andrew, assigned to a contractor fraud task force. Served as a Detective assigned to Miami International Airport (MIA) for 7 years. Most of the investigations at MIA were theft and fraud cases including long term international airline ticket fraud.
Retired from MDPD in 2007 and moved to Fernandina Beach. Served full time for the Fernandina Beach Police Department (FBPD) for five years with a year seconded to the Nassau County State Attorney's office as an investigator and time on the FBPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team. Served as a part time Police Officer assigned to a special contract mission.
Married to Tina SoRelle Kozak, Realtor for Coldwell Banker Amelia Group.


John D Drake, PhD, is a psychologist and author who has published ten books. He founded and was CEO of Drake Beam & Associates Inc., an International  human-resources consulting firm. Retired, he and his wife, Dee, live in Florida. They have four sons.
