“Go Fearlessly”, is the chief bit of advice that Charles McCarrick, Chief Scientist and founder of Micro-Ant, Kore Composites and Swordy Moon offers to entrepreneurs, young and old alike. When starting out as a entrepreneur, no matter how many years you’ve clocked, it comes down to maximizing your strengths and overcoming a lack of experience and confidence.

Born in Middleboro, Massachusetts McCarrick graduated from University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth where he studied electrical engineering. In school, McCarrick was unsure what kind of engineer he wanted to be, he simply had a fascination with how everything worked. Until the day he walked into the RF Antenna Lab, and history was made. After graduation, he worked as Chief Scientist for Seavey Engineering and consequently started Micro-Ant LLC in 2001. Micro-Ant’s antennas a part of the product offering of almost every major satcom terminal integrator. “We consistently challenge ourselves to develop the best solution to the problem rather than the solution that was the most common or even requested by the customer. Customers tell us what they want, and we build them what they need.” To date McCarrick calls his ability to design beam forming and beam shaping, both in arrays and other types of antenna architectures as his greatest accomplishment.

While most of the other antenna designers specialize in a specific antenna design: parabolic or ESAs, Charlie and his company have succeeded by focusing the toughest challenges regardless of the architecture. Charlie’s designs have been used on a Mars rover by NASA, on E-Z Passes around the country, to automate agriculture around the world, and of course, to save lives and deliver coms in disaster and defense settings. More recently, Dr. McCarrick has been growing not only as an engineer but also as a business leader and mentor. In 2021 McCarrick launched a new business, Kore Composites, delivering the first carbon composite reflectors which rival the performance of rigid aluminum reflectors. At the same time, he completed the writing of Lessons My Brother’s Taught Me published by Scribe Media and due by fall of 2022. In his book he helps individuals and businesses transform by turning personal qualities into business success. “While developing antennas and leading Micro-Ant continues to be my focus, I am also now looking towards giving back to the community and to develop the next generation of leaders in our industry.”
